You have taught your students how to solve an equation with a factorable cubic polynomial. You may even have batted away questions about cubics that aren’t factorable, confident in the knowledge that there’s a formula for that. But have you ever looked into the eyes of those cubics, and what those formulas do to them? Have you ever seen how horribly they can express “x=2”? An eminent guest lecturer will help guide us through an exploration of horrors that we’d rather avoid.
