This professional development workshop is designed for educators seeking to deepen their impact in the classroom through critical introspection practices. Critical Introspection is the examination of how one's personal life has been impacted by intersectional identities, power, oppression, privilege, cultural hegemony and the societal structure. Workshop participants will utilize an ethnic studies pedagogical approach to work through a series of self-exploration exercises that encourage an investigation of personal histories and experiences. Participants will learn and utilize two frameworks during this workshop: Tara Yosso's Community Cultural Wealth Theory and Iris Marion Young's Five Faces of Oppression Theory. There are three major learning objectives for this training:

To equip educators with the skills and understanding to utilize Tara Yosso's Community Cultural Wealth Theory for recognizing and valuing diverse cultural assets within themselves and their classroom communities.
To introduce and implement Iris Marion Young's Five Faces of Oppression as a framework for understanding the impact of systemic inequality on the educator's own life, their student's lives and the lives of the broader community.
To guide educators through a critical introspection practice focused on their own personal histories and experiences, by using academic theory, creative expression, group dialogue and various multimedia tools to foster a deeper sense of self and role in the educational landscape.
Methodology: The workshop will incorporate a mix of theoretical discussions, interactive group activities, and personal reflection exercises.

Target Audience: This workshop is ideal for teachers, educators, and academic professionals at all levels who are interested in personal growth, effective teaching methodologies, and creating inclusive educational environments.

Participant Needs for the Workshop: Phone, Laptop, Writing Materials

Attendance at this professional development activity is limited to LRCCD employees and invited participants.
